Beinecke Library
Beinecke Visual Identity
Challenge
The visual identity and Beinecke name were represented in a variety of styles by multiple graphic designers managed separately by each curator.
Solution
Developed a clear aesthetic reflecting the library’s 1963 founding and the building’s iconic architectural style.
Created a standard wordmark treatment that all project leads could agree on.
Presented the library’s first PR strategy to the full staff, achieving broad understanding and enthusiastic buy-in.
Communicated new guidelines directly to various designers while allowing for curators to maintain their own styles.
Instituted bold and consistent treatment of name, 50th-anniversary logo, color palette, style, and imagery.
Before & After
I transformed the print ad below by sourcing a photo of the speaker that evoked his personality and a quote about his writing process, and adding descriptive text. I placed these within a strong representation of the Beinecke Library as the event organizer, rather than merely a venue.
